ANIMATED EXPLAINER VIDEOS

Animated explainer videos. Ideas made clear.

A complex product, a technical process or a service that is hard to put into words? I make complex subjects easy to understand through animated explainer videos. I’m Richie Phillips, an animator based in Leicester, working with businesses and creative teams across the UK from the first idea through script, design and animation to the finished film.

01

Find the story.

Start with your audience and the one thing you want them to understand. You don’t need a finished script: a conversation, a presentation or a rough outline can give us a starting point.

We can shape the message, work through the script and plan the storyboards before getting into animation. This is where we check the explanation makes sense and the direction feels right.

02

Make it make sense.

The visuals should help explain the subject and feel like your brand. My work includes data centre power systems for Advanced Energy, professional learning for Exponential Training and legal technology for Thomson Reuters.

For Exponential, I helped develop the script and storyboards, then animated the designer’s graphics. The client said the film made conversations with potential customers easier because there was less to explain.

03

Get it ready to use.

Tell me where the video will appear: your website, a presentation, social channels or somewhere else. We’ll agree the length, aspect ratios, shorter edits and any language versions before production gets too far along.

You’ll work directly with me through design, animation, feedback and final delivery. Share your deadline and budget so we can plan the scope and review stages together.

A few useful answers.

Can you explain our subject without losing the important detail?

Yes. We start with what your audience needs to understand, then use clear visuals and a script to guide them through it. Your team provides the subject knowledge and checks the explanation at the script and storyboard stages. You approve technical details and claims before we move into animation.

How much does an animated explainer video cost?

It depends on the length, visual style and complexity, plus whether you need a script, storyboards or new artwork. Send your audience, message, deadline and budget range. I can then recommend an approach and quote for the agreed scope.

How long will my explainer take?

A short animation using supplied designs needs a different schedule from a film built from scratch. Timing also depends on feedback and approvals. Share your launch date and what you already have so we can plan a realistic production schedule.

Do I need a script or finished designs?

No. I can help shape an early idea and take it through script, design and animation. If you already have approved material, I can work from that too. Let me know what is ready and what you need help with.

Can you make versions for our website and social channels?

Yes. Tell me the platforms, aspect ratios, shorter edits and any language versions you need. Agreeing these at the start lets us plan the design and quote for the right deliverables.
