A technical explainer for Advanced Energy showing how power is delivered and converted within data centre racks. Created with Idee Creative, the animation explains the move from 12 V to 48 V power distribution and the role of DC-to-DC converters.

The brief

Turn a supplied script about data centre power systems into a clear animation for Advanced Energy’s website. The film introduces rack-level power distribution, power shelves and the conversion stages that supply individual components.

The approach

I worked with Shaun Taylor at Idee Creative to develop the visual approach. Shaun created the assets and I handled the animation. Together, we worked out how to bring the supplied script to life.

The animation moves from a server rack to its individual components, showing 48 V distribution, conversion to 12 V and lower voltages, and two-stage and hybrid conversion approaches. Motion graphics and on-screen captions make the sequence easier to follow while keeping the technical explanation at the centre of the film.

The finished work

A two-minute, 16-second explainer animation used on Advanced Energy’s website.

My contribution
